Created by Caselden Studios in New York, NY, USA , 2015

Employing an amalgam of light sensors, electromagnets and reimagined string instruments, New York-based design lab Caselden Studios developed Sounding Box #11, an interactive electroacoustic instrument controlled by modulations of light. As the movements of exhibition-goers cast shadows on a network of sensors, the circuitry within the sculpture produces various magnetic fields, each designed to resonate the box’s strings. The resulting drone modulates according to the viewer’s movements, allowing participants to affect their own aural experience.
