Beyond Ice
Created by Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, ON, Canada , 2017
Museum curators projected films of vibrant indigenous life onto real sheets of ice to reframe the identity of the arctic ecosystem. This immersive, educational installation used projection mapping onto slabs of glowing ice that visitors could touch. Videos displayed films of animals, plant life and First Nations Peoples who all live in the far northern arctic region. In choosing to project images on the ice itself, the museum created a tangible connection between visitors and the arctic. The intention of the installation was to promote education and environmental conservation through the physical interaction with the ice.
