Created by Laurie Anderson + Sin-Chien Huang + Mass MOCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, USA , 2017

One of America’s most revered multimedia artists, Laurie Anderson worked in collaboration with Taiwanese artist Hsin-Chien Huang to produce a pair of award-winning VR experiences designed for the gallery: Chalkroom and Aloft. Forgoing the task-oriented approach typical to many VR platforms, Chalkroom guides the museum-goer through a massive, ever-changing structure composed of the artist’s words, drawings and stories; readers fly through the structure in a kind of disoriented state, with Anderson’s familiar voice as your companion. In Aloft, Anderson invites passengers onto an airplane that casually dissolves around you, drifting through a self-determined narrative.
