Created by design I/O in Toronto, ON, Canada , 2017

Commissioned for the Toronto International Film Festival’s annual digiPlaySpace, Design I/O’s Mimic exhibit invites visitors to interact directly with a tractable robotic arm, designed to playfully
reflect the gestural behaviors of its human counterparts. With motion sensors and simple AI directives, the robot develops “emotional” impressions of each participant — its movements responding reflexively with either trust, caution or curiosity. Built in cooperation with Universal Robots, Mimic whimsically explores the growing dialogue between man and machine.
