Paintings from the 1600s and 1800s spring to life in the present using this animated AR mobile app created by artist Alex Mayhew. When viewed through a mobile device, the artwork becomes a moving narrative, animated versions of the paintings critique the modern age in dynamic re-imaginings of what the subjects would be doing if they lived in present day. Incorporating antiquities of the past into a mobile app brought a renewed interest in art to those interested in augmented reality as well as a rise in museum attendance.
