The Next Rembrandt
Created by ING + Microsoft + TU Delft + Mauritshuis + Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam, Netherlands , 2016
A team of experts generated a new painting based on the deep learning analysis of Rembrandt’s 346 known paintings. Processes such as facial demography and relief mapping were combined with pixel data to determine technique, brushstrokes, materials used, composition and imagery to 3D print a physical work in the style of Rembrandt inherently faithful to the Dutch master’s style. This technology could be used as a tool for conservators in the reconstruction of damaged antiquities to help determine what was missing or damaged and printing a 3D patch or model.
